FO: girls cloche hat

A quick crochet hat I whipped up for my niece last night, basically to showcase the pink brooch I spent some time during the evening beading!

IMG_8669.JPG Yarn is Sirdar Crofter. It all came about because I found the yarn unexpectedly in my stash about 6pm last night. I’d completely forgotten I had it and I realised it would go with the flower. Yes, there are many things I *should* have been doing, but I bunked off. I have two balls left but I am not going to whip up a scarf or anything else as I’ve put it away…

    • Girls Cloche Hat

      All crocheted using Trebles (UK)
I chose a thick DK – in this case Sirdar Crofter
      I used a 6mm hook, but a 5 or 5.5mm might be better for a smaller child
This is comfortable for my niece who wears age 11-12 clothes (even though she’s 9)

      Create a magic circle
Row 1 – chain 2 (or 3 if you are a tight crocheter, whatever gets the height and looks neatest) 15 TR into magic circle (15) slip stich to join.
Row 2 – chain 2, 2 TR into each TR (30) slip stich to join.
Row 3 – chain 2, *2 TR into first TR, 1 TR into next TR*. Repeat from * to ** around (45) slip stich to join.
Row 4 – chain 2, *2 TR into first TR, 1 TR into next 2 TR* Repeat from * to ** around (60) slip stich to join.
Row 5 – chain 2, *2 TR into first TR, 1 TR into next 3 TR* Repeat from * to ** around (75) slip stich to join.
Rows 6-8 – 1 TR into each TR (maybe omit one of these rows for a smaller child) slip stich to join.
Row 9 – chain 2, *decrease one stitch over 2 TR, 1 TR in next 13 TR* Repeat from * to ** around (70) slip stich to join.
Row 10 – chain 2, *decrease one stitch over 2 TR, 1 TR in next 12 TR* Repeat from * to ** around (65) slip stich to join.
Row 11 – chain 2, *decrease one stitch over 2 TR, 1 TR in next 11 TR* Repeat from * to ** around (60) omit if your child has a big head! slip stich to join.
Row 12 – chain2, TR in each stitch slip stich to join.
Repeat Row 12 until your work is long enough. I did 6 rows in total including row 12
Scallop edging. Each motif worked over 5 stitches. *skip 2 TR, do 5 TR into the next stitch. Skip 2 stitches and slip stitch to the next stitch**. Repeat from * to **
Add pompom or decoration of your choice.

      • Thank you SO much! I’ll show you the finished hat. Can’t do anything until this trapped nerve is sorted though – been to hospital and currently immobile through shoulders and neck:(

      • Oh how lovely of you – I would LOVE to meet up! Had shoulder problems for a while but woke up to trapped nerve on Monday. Pure agony. Even intravenous morphine didn’t touch the pain. Too much to do to be ill! X
