2017 in review

2017 was definitely a year of highs and lows which included D being injured twice in accidents at his work and again when our car was written off after another driver jumped a red light when he was on his way home home work. Mollie managed to snaffle a large piece of Christmas cake in January and ended up in the vets for a couple of days. On the upside there were some fantastic holidays, trips out with friends and lots of lots of knitting and crocheting!

This year I started off by making some chunky pussyhats for a friend who was attending the Women’s March in Washington.I made 5 of them, and was so pleased to see the photos of them being worn. This started the year off in hat mode and they were followed by a lot more hats over the year. All of them are Woolly Wormhead patterns unless stated:

Banksia in Devon Sun Yarns Tweed Aran and a crochet beanie in King Cole Riot.

Muratura in a DK I dyed myself at a yarn retreat:

Slipped Ridge Beanie in undyed Cadbury Farm alpaca.

Darkke in Juniper Moon farm alpaca:

Pavone in Yan Tan Tethara sock yarn:

Half Theory Hat in Hand Drawn Yarn colourway ‘Unicorn Garden’:

Chevron Beanie in Rowan Cocoon:

Wide Rib Beanie in ‘How to Manage Your Flamingo’ by Down Sheepy Lane:

Alveare in King Cole Riot:

Violet Waffles by Halldora J in Snuggly Stars Yarns colourway ‘Santa Suit’:

A beanie based on Starburst:

I also knitted a grey Starburst but don’t seem to have a finished picture:

Finally top to bottom, Mulinello in Devon Sun Yarns, Sette Vele in Miss Babs Yummy and Toph in Devon Sun Yarns (variegated) and Fyberspates:

As well as hats I made a number of shawls. I tested Hannah from Not Your Average Crochet’s new Granny shawl:

I made three versions of Lost in Atlantis by Elizabeth Davis de Herriaz. The top two are made in different shades of King Cole Riot the bottom one is in Debbie Bliss Rialto Luxury Sock with Marmalade Yarns sock ‘Murder at the Vicarage’ for the border.

I knitted two Boo Knits shawls as gifts, the pink, which is I Knit or Dye lace for a new baby, the green for a colleague to wear to her daughter’s wedding, knit in a custom dyed Babylonglegs wool/ silk mix.

I also crocheted a Wonder Woman shawl by Carissa Browning in two custom dyed colour ways from Yan Tan Tethera yarns: this was for a colleague to wear to her wedding.

Apart from those I’ve made a few doilies:

Crocheted a ‘Your Mileage May Vary’ shawl in Fyberspates for one boss’s birthday:

And a Sockhead Cowl in Lang Yarns Mille Colori for another boss’s birthday:

Made a Granny blanket in Noro Kureyon for my friend Josh:

A cardigan for my Mum in Sirdar Ella:

We had our annual Christmas competition and I ran out of time to make the compulsory entry, which was a cushion, so I made a dolls house size one! Luckily I have a friend who restores dolls houses and who could lend me a little chair:

And my entry with the others! I didn’t win. The reindeer did!

I have also started and not completed a number of projects!

The following are the highlights of my stash enhancement this year. 😊<<<<<<

  1. You have had a busy year. I don’t remember so much grey on Mollie’s muzzle, but this year has brought me more grey hair too. I’m glad you’re blogging again. Happy New Year!

  2. Wow, you really knocked the heck out of 2017. What great projects! Love the yarn stash too. Mollie is as adorable as always. Happy and healthy New Year to you and your family.

  3. Poor D. I hope he has fully recovered from his accidents. Molly looks as fab as usual and what an amazing array of hats. I have struggled to find any hat patterns I like recently but I LOVE both the King Cole Riot one and one of the last ones you’ve pictured (modelled by your sister I think) with the pink/multi pattern. There won’t be any cold heads near you for a while 😀 xx

  4. Wow! Do you ever sleep??? I am so glad you are back on WO, I have missed you! Mollie looks fab, though a touch gray. Time passes so quickly for our 4 legged friends! Hope D is all recovered from his accidents! Happy New Year to all of you!

  5. Sorry to hear about the accidents, hopefully D (and cars) fully recovered by now?
I’ve never seen such an amazing amount of knitted and crocheted items – too splendiferous for words. I think my favourite is the Toph you knitted, particularly in the colours you chose. Happy New Year ❤

  6. I was shocked to read about these accidents. I’m so sorry. I hope 2018 is accident free for you and your loved ones. You’ve been whipping out the hats! Great job on that. I’m glad you’ve had lots of joy and creating as well in 2017.
